Students are coached on how to deliver friendly and efficient customer service while learning how to operate, clean, care and maintain coffee machines as well as learning to master the skill of making all different type of coffees.

The course includes a compulsory two-week work-experience component where the students volunteer at partnering coffee shops to gain experience in the industry.

This course is ideal for students who want to improve their language and workplace skills to a point where they can function effectively as baristas or start their own coffee business.

Life Skills

The GetOn Skills Development Centre mission is to empower people by helping them to manage their lives through specific skills training, whilst striving towards economic, social, emotional, and mental independence.

The Life Skills training contributes towards preparing the students for employment, in order for them to become preferred employees. The programme also allows for personal growth and development, to encourage self-confidence and self-belief which in turn produces graduates who are ready to find employment or to initiate new business.

Life Skills training is incorporated into all our courses at GetOn Skills Development Centre, a registration fee of R50 is charged. The Life Skills is a compulsory component and done as a prerequisite before all courses.

Job Readiness Workshop

Open DayThe fee for this 5 day training workshop is R50.00 per participant.

The Job Readiness Workshop is an intensive training workshop to prepare job-seekers for employment oppourtunities. The workshop emphasizes on building self-esteem, employability, language, interview, maths and job success skills. The workshop is designed to teach job seekers how to obtain and sustain employment.

Students who pass the assessment test at the end of the workshop will be placed at our retail partners for a week on-the-job experience training. Chances of employment after successful completion of this course are high!

Students who are unsuccessful in finding employment within three months return to GetOn Skills Development Centre to refresh and improve on skills taught to have a second chance of securing employment.

Entrepreneurial Course


Duration: 2 weeks

Cost: R200.00

The aim of services SETA aligned entrepreneurial course is to help business-minded students develop economic skills that will enable them to start up their own businesses or successfully manage already running businesses.

Students will have acquired an understanding of entrepreneurship and possess the management skills to run a small business. Central to the learning process is an introduction into marketing and the need to identify and investigate best practices. The students will be able to discuss the importance of product-planning and different methods that can be used to calculate the cost- and selling-price of stock.

The core topics the course covers are business ideas, legal requirements in business, drafting a business plan, finding and keeping customers, and financial management to start developing black owned efficient suppliers for companies to use as procurement partners. The course has a strict monitoring and evaluation component keeping track of the entrepreneur's performance over a 12 month period.


Health and Wellness Workshop

Twice a month Dr. Janet Strauss voluntarily hosts a workshop on Health and Wellness for all our students to further their knowledge on topics such as Tuberculosis, (seasonal) allergies and infections, specific women's and men's health issues, (early detection of) breast cancer, HIV/AIDS and drugs and alcohol abuse.
